You Just Know
By: Tom Smith, Wooddale Church of Christ

There are some things you just know.
They aren't chiseled in stone.
There is no arm-twisting or coercion.
It's not a "have to" kind of thing, but, well … you just know!

As in who your real friends are.
Don't you just know?

When the chips are down or your heart is crushed beyond imagination - don't you just know whom it is that you can count on to be there for you?
It might not be the person you hang out with the most.

Some people are nothing more than fair weather friends.
They're with you when the skies are blue, but when storm clouds gather they scatter.

These are not friends - only acquaintances.

This is summed up nowhere more eloquently than in an 1865 letter from William Tecumseh Sherman to U.S. Grant: "I knew wherever I was that you thought of me, and if I got in a tight place you would come--if alive."

So, look around you. Who showed up to see you through your longest and darkest night?
(Proverbs 17:17) "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."
- Tom Butterfield
